Training

Alan Ross Consulting is able to deliver a range of training courses to meet your needs on a variety of different topics. Each course can be tailored to meet your specific needs and can be delivered either at your own premises or another venue.

The courses are intended to provide a structured but light-hearted look at relevant issues to enable key staff to carry out their roles in a more effective manner.

Each course lasts either a half-day or a full day and some courses include practical demonstrations of laboratory testing (by prior arrangement). Longer courses are available on request.

Courses available include

• Textile testing Duration: 1 day
  An introduction to textile testing, what it involves, what it means, how it relates to manufacturing and the finished article. Covers physical testing, fabric construction, fibre analysis, colour fastness, chemical and restricted substance testing, and product safety and includes practical demonstrations of popular tests .
   

• Flammability of textiles Duration: 1 day
  An introduction to the world of flammability testing of textiles. Covers both apparel and furnishings and includes practical demonstrations of some of the tests.
   

• Sampling and inspection of consumer products Duration: half day
  Covers why and how to use sampling schemes, carrying out an inspection properly, how to interpret and inspection report
   

• General Product Safety Duration: half day or full day versions available
  Covers what the legislation requires, how to ensure you have performed 'due diligence', how to ensure product safety is included from the design stage
   

• Developing performance  and/or product specifications Duration: half day
  Covers how to develop a product or performance specification from scratch, what to include and how to characterise the requirements of the product
   

• Raising awareness of Ethical Trading Initiative Base Code  Duration: 1 day
  Corporate social responsibility affects everyone, both overseas and in the UK. Are you doing everything that you should? Can you be sure that you are not breaking employment law? How can you satisfy yourself that your supply chain are not letting you down? This course covers what you need to know and gives advice on how to ensure that you are meeting your social obligations.
   

• Health & Safety Duration: varies according to topic.
  Topics can include modules on specific aspects such as fire safety, risk assessment, managing H&S, etc. by request.  
   

• Developing Quality Management Systems Duration: half day
  How to go about developing a quality management system that meets your needs. One size does NOT fit all.

• Uncertainty of Measurement - how it affects you! Duration: from half day
  All test measurements have an associated error - uncertainty is the means of quantifying that error. Do you know what to do? Have you included all relevant components of uncertainty? How does it affect you or the test reports you issue or are provided with? The course can be run in various durations to meet individual needs.
